Week 10 #23 A Very Nice Experience

Thanks very much for those who make this learning opportunity so easy to obtain to anybody who wants to explore the new and populor Internet tools and technology.

I have learned a lot of new stuff from the 23 things and I am going to continue to use them in the future.

I am looking forward to learning more.

Week 9: #22 Downloadable Media

I have watched Digital Media Guided Tour and Visited HCPL's digital site.

I like the idea of elibrary. It's very very convenient and you don't need to worry about due date or lost the metiers. By the time goes we should have more and more collections and maybe different forms of digital media compatible with more portable digital devices.

Week 9 #21 podcast

I looked at Podcast.net and Yahoo podcasts. They are just some more places and forms to find information people interested in. For some reason, a lot of them were not play for me, but I did find a garden podcast I enjoy to listen and add the RSS feed to my Bloglines account.

Week 8 # 18 Facebook, #19 Zoho Writer.

I have just opened a Zoho Writer.account. It sounds very convenient to use. I am going to post this Zoho document on my blog.

My daughter have used Facebook since she was in high school. I registered for Facebook, so I will try to get in touch with her through Facebook. I need spend some more time to play with it.

I composted this paragraph in Zoho Writer and tried to post it to my blog, but it didn't let me do it. I read the instruction and it sounds very easy.

I hope this is good enough to earn my blin for week 8. I will read more about social networking sites and web-based applications later.

Week 7 #17 Technology

We are using new technology everyday, all the time. But I never really think about it until this exercise. It amazes me when thinking how much easier our life become by using these technologies. I can't imaging how people going any where without cars and telephones or any of those modern tools. Now with GPS, you can't get lost. The only thing you need to do is to put in the address of the destination you are going to go.

People are always connected by cell phone, Internet with their families and outside world.

I am curiously expecting more new things coming out to make our lives more fun and interesting.

Week 7 #16 Wiki

I am catching up with my ihcpl assignment.

Wiki is a kind of website that people are working together to develop and update the content. It's a nice team work that let participants contribute without helping of IT people.

I see my daughter using Wikipedia all the time. I thought Wikipedia just anther popular free Internet encyclopedia. Now I know Wikipedia is a multilingual, web-based, free content encyclopedia project written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world.. When I was reading about Wikipedia, my first question was how reliable the information is if anyone can change the content of the encyclopedia. After I read "Strengths, weaknesses, and article quality in Wikipedia", I am kind of understanding how it works. It's interesting.

Week 6: #13, 14, 15

I have opened a Delicious account and put some web address with tag there. I also put blog lines there because I have all my iHCPL links there. I subscribed Delicious in my blog line list. I can check websites in my watch list when I login either blog lines or Delicious.

I did an advanced search for Learning 2.0 in Blog Posts, in tags and Blog Directory. Thousands of results overwhelmed me. It's like another search engine other than Google and yahoo.

Library 2.0 is too big of a thing for me to think now. What I am thinking now is to do my best to keep up with those new technology and wondering what going to happen with the technique department here if most of our library materiel become electronic format.

Week 5 # 12 Library Elf

I have four people in my family. I used to put all books in my library account, so I only needed to check one account to manage all the books my family borrow. In one summer I got in trouble because I checked out too many books. Since then I distribute every one's books in their account. But I have to check each account often. Now I can use library elf to manage all my family accounts together. It will make my life easier.

Week 5 # 11 Library Thing

Library Thing is going to be very useful to me. Currently I write down the books I am interested in my old calendar notebook with different sorting, such as, gardening; cooking; parenting etc. I also put some books on amazon web in my wish lists. Now I have a place to put, sort and tag all the books I like on Library Thing. I can check them anywhere as long as there is a computer with Internet. I haven't figure out how to put Chinese book there yet.

Week 5 #10 Avatars

I wasn't intereted in avatars. I builded one using Yahoo avatars because I have an account there already. I will make one from meez later.

Week 4 #8,9 Bloglines

When I first worked on the bloglines, I was confused by bloglines and Del.icio.us. They sound samething to me. What is the different? I understand it better after read the fourdog mom's blog about it. It's great we learn the iHCPL together.

I have opened a bloglines account and fed some news web sites and iHCPL blogs that I want to read often. I can see if they are updated or not without open them.

I also tried search tools and put some more feeds in.

I thing I did everything I should do to earn my blogline bling.

Internet safety is a different aspect to people other then physical safety. It's crucial to understand and know how to minimize the risks to be victimized.

It feels great to learn these Internet stuff. It makes it more fun to learn them with colleagues and read their blogs.

Hi, I have been curious about Internet tools for a while and always want to learn about them. I got so exited after attending the workshop "iHCPL 2.0". It's awesome that we have this opportunity at our library to learn these new technologies. Thank.
